Arranged in standard ballad form, Lonely Elvis Man gives the listener an insight to the emotional complexity of an Elvis impersonator who is, “following a lonely dream,” and dealing with the desolation that can result from a life spent performing onstage, pretending to be someone else. The feeling is one that has often emerged for Yusif on tour: “Life is hard on the road. There’s so much heartache that you go through. Dumb stuff too. We fight over who gets to eat the last cup of shrimp noodles.”
